RENT is set in New York City's gritty East Village, and this revolutionary rock musical is an imaginative retelling of the classic Puccini opera, La Boheme. This unforgettable and timeless story of a group of starving artists, who, despite poverty and illness, learn to fall in love and find their voice, brings a universal message of hope for everyone.
Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize, RENT with Book, Music and Lyrics by the late Jonathan Larson, has made a lasting mark on Broadway, and the world with songs that rock and a story that really resonates.
The 24 Hour Rent company is staging the full production, and putting it all together in only 24 hours.
Fully staged, costumed and rehearsed, the cast and crew work for 24 hours to bring you this exciting project to its full potential.
Rehearsals begin 3pm Friday August 30th.
Performances 3pm & 7pm Saturday August 31st.
The premise is simple - the cast rehearses the musical over a 24-hour period, and then performs it.
The rehearsals are an adrenaline-fueled mad-dash to the curtain. The performance is a unique experience; unpredictable and exhilarating for both the company and the audience.
The short time-span is the big advantage of the project. Not only does it provide a unique challenge for the participants, but it means that people can do a show together without having to block out months of rehearsal time, and can even squeeze it in between or during other commitments.
It provides an opportunity for creative people to network, exchange ideas and work positively together whilst still creating a high quality production.
24 Hour RENT brings together a cast of professional actors and talented amateurs, a live band, and a hard-working production team. All volunteers, they pull together to produce a professional-standard musical in just 24 hours.
Rehearsals start on Friday afternoon at 3pm. None of the cast have worked together on the show before this time. Then, 24 amazing, exciting, exhausting hours later, it’s showtime!
