When a much-awaited Baker arrives in a bread deprived French village, the town celebrate, and treat the devoted and kind Aimable Castagenet as a celebrity. Aimable’s young and attractive wife Genevieve is not met with the same respect, and the villagers become fixated on the age gap between her and the Baker.

When Genevieve is tempted by a young man, and he steals her away, the town do everything they can to bring her home to her husband, who is refusing to bake any bread until her return.
